About this artwork
This artwork from my UnderWater Collection uses epoxy resin, a fluid medium that hardens over time, requiring patience and technique. Its high-gloss finish enhances depth and vibrant colours, giving the piece life.
The sea’s movements, frequently blue, turquoise, and aquamarine tones, inspire my work's fluid forms and vibrant colours. The contrast of light breaking through water creates a sense of introspection, inviting you to explore within.
These… pieces invite self-discovery, capturing life's fluidity, peace, and movement. They're more than wall art; they reflect individuality and self-awareness.
I’m Rubén Abstract. I was born in Madrid in 1975 but grew up in the Canary Islands, where I spent my adolescence. My art combines the energy of Madrid with the tranquillity of the islands. Ironman triathlons and marathons also inspire my creative discipline, pushing me to explore new depths. I hope to connect with you through my art and encourage reflection on your journey.

« You can swim in the direction you feel, it's your way. You just have to trust. »
Rubén is a self-taught artist with roots in Madrid and the Canary Islands, blending the energy of the city with the calm of the ocean. His first collection, *Swimmers*, was inspired by triathlons and Ironman races, and later became a metaphor for authenticity, courage, and choosing your own direction.
His fascination with epoxy resin led to years of experimentation with pigments, drying times, humidity, and temperature, eventually giving birth to *UnderWater*: an abstract, meditative series built layer by layer on wood, with glossy finishes and strong visual depth.
After leaving a corporate career, Rubén now works full-time as an artist. What he values most is the emotional connection his work creates with collectors around the world.
He lives and works in Madrid, where he keeps his studio and can often be found running through Retiro Park at sunrise.
