"Door Was Open" masterfully captures the irony of a massive eruption. As part of the "action meets bliss" series, this work contrasts strict, vertical barriers with a blazing hot, chaotic center.
The painting was built up through several expressive layers of acrylic paint; the sharp grid lines were created by first masking the canvas with strips of paper. This controlled process channels the untamed energy of action painting until it is visually… released.
The deliberately dry title dismisses the fiery inferno with a mere shrug as an unlocked gate – and perfectly balances the tremendous action of the color with an almost stoic, untouched calm (Bliss).
